As always, it's great to be amongst all you lovely people with all of your generosity and support. Thank you in advance for reading, I'll make it short. This is the exciting and heartwarming tale of Christmas last year with my n Mom.
She told me she rented a cabin in Bryson City,NC so that we could spend Christmas around Gatlinburg,TN. I was hesitant, as I worked at a coffee shop and lived with my dad at the time out of state, and since I was working on saving up and moving out,I was unsure about taking the time off work and driving 5 hours up to her because I really needed the money. But I figured hey, it's Christmas, why not have a little vacation and continue saving when I get back? Before coming up, I explained to her that I didn't have much to spend and she insisted that she had everything taken care of. Ok.
So the vacation goes pretty well....as good as it can be with her. I bought myself a pair of moccasins at a store on the reservation, and also bought a couple of handmade arrows to give my friend Steven because he's big on archery and I thought he'd like them a lot. One day she dragged me to a casino. I was extremely excited because I'd never been to a casino before and I was finally old enough for it. Of course, even though everything was "taken care of" mom refused to pay for anything I wanted to do. Which is fine by me, she doesn't have to pay for it it's her money, but what the hell am I supposed to do at a casino without money? So I took more out of my savings to play some slots.
When we left, it was sad because it was so beautiful up there and going back to reality sucks. On that drive back, everything fell apart. She began screaming at me in the car about how I didn't get her anything for Christmas (I did,I gave her a framed photo I got taken of me and my dog with Santa Claus but I guess sentimental things don't count as real presents, not to mention the money I spent on gas driving up there to spend Christmas with her in the first place) and how dare I spend money on two three dollar arrows for a friend and spend money at the casino that she insisted we go to when I was "supposedly" saving up to move out.
Then she started crying while screaming at me about how ungrateful and selfish I was for not getting her anything for Christmas when she spent so much renting out this cabin for us and driving us up there. Then she started telling me about how she tried to kill herself but the gun jammed and how I wouldn't even care if she was dead and how I'd probably like that. It was awful. I wanted to comfort her, but I felt so scared and I didn't know what to say. All of this over not getting her something for Christmas, because the driving up there and the picture weren't good enough, and she needed an actual expensive present to validate my love for her.
That was Christmas last year. I'm making sure this year to get her something expensive that I know she wants just so I don't have to go through that again. I don't want her to kill herself because she didn't get what she wanted.
